COSTA RICA RAINFORST BEACH RENTAL - "RECOMMENDED BY LONELY PLANET"
On a secluded five acres of pristine rainforest beachfront in one of the most biologically diverse areas on earth, this handcrafted bamboo/hardwood house lets you escape the hustle of civilization and safely and comfortably enjoy countless natural wonders.
Located in the same vast, uninterruped rainforest as nearby Corcovado National Park, Casa Bambu is located on the tip of the Osa Peninsula, where the rainforest meets the sea. Outside Magazine calls the Osa "Costa Rica's great untamed peninsula," and says: "…the old Costa Rica, a country of unspoiled rainforest, abundant wildlife, rustic facilities…does still exists…on the Pacific Coast's rugged Osa Peninsula." National Geographic calls Corcovado one of "the most biologically intense places on earth."
After visiting our house, Lonely Planet's Costa Rica (4th edition) recommends Casa Bambu as a place to stay (pp 460-461).
Note: our e-mail address has changed since publication of this book.
Home to four types of monkey, hundreds of bird species, sloth, iguana, anteaters, iridescent butterflies and myriad varieties of vegetation, this magical place offers the rare opportunity to experience nature at its most spectacular and unspoiled. It is a principle stronghold of the endangered squirrel monkey and scarlet macaw, and offers more opportunities to view these rare animals than anywhere in Central America.
From your porch see macaw and toucan fly by and monkeys swing past through the forest canopy. Without leaving your front yard, enjoy spectacular sunrises over the magnificent Golfo Dulce, a beautiful secluded beach and shore fishing. Or venture out to pristine waterfalls, deep-sea waters, rainforest trails and more breathtaking scenery and unspoiled sand and surf.
Blending contemporary American technology and construction techniques with indigenous Indian building traditions, Casa Bambu is a revival of the lost art of bamboo construction in Costa Rica. The rafters and exposed bamboo beams are works of art in themselves! Constructed from native bamboo and hardwoods (manglio, cristobal, and nazareno), the house allows you to be comfortable, while not closing you off from its fantastic surroundings. With only shuttered half walls and railings between you and the ocean breezes and gorgeous views, Casa Bambu brings the outdoors in.
Our American managers, Mike and Katie Hennessy, live down the road and are on hand to assist you during your stay in the rainforest. They are a wealth of information about the area and want to help make your visit enjoyable.

Additional Notes:
The trip was fantastic!!! It was the best trip of my life and I can say that is probably true for most of my family. Casa Bambu was everything we imagined and more, far more. Everything from the sounds of the rain forest...the howler monkeys and the cicadas waking us up every morning to the wonderful hikes, sportfishing trips w/ Mike, the many animals and birds, and on and on. It was an unbelievable experience that three generations of my family were able to enjoy together.
Thank you so much for all your help in making this trip to Costa Rica an enjoyable experience that our family will never forget. The only bummer was that we did not make our stay longer. Being there made me realize how simple you can live. I usually am ready to come home from a vacation and it makes me appeciate home. But this time I was appreciating where I had come from and how I need to incorporate more of that into my life at home.
Again, thank you so much for a truly wonderful experience. Pura vida. Tom and family – Gilroy, CA
Directions: : All international flights go through Costa Rica's capital city, San Jose, so unless you can make a same-day connection to Puerto Jimenez (which will probably mean an overnight flight), you will spend your first and last nights there. (If you want to get to our house as quickly as possible, look for flights that arrive in San Jose in the early morning. When leaving, try for flights departing San Jose in the afternoon). Most major airlines fly to San Jose, including Continental, United, American and Lacsa/Grupo Taca (the national airline of Costa Rica).
To Puerto Jimenez BY AIR: The nearest town to Casa Bambu (35-45 minutes) is Puerto Jimenez, gateway to the Osa. This is where flights from San Jose land, where you buy groceries and can enjoy the many local restaurants. It also has a post office, Internet cafe, clinic, bank and other modern amenities we don't have out at Matapalo, where Casa Bambu is.
There is daily air service from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez on both Sansa and Travelair Airlines. Sansa leaves from the Sansa terminal at the Juan Santamaria Airport (about 35 minutes from downtown San Jose) where the international flights land. Travelair leaves from Tobias Bolanos Airport (about 20 minutes from downtown San Jose).
On your flight to Puerto Jimenez, which takes about 50 minutes, you will see spectacular views of the countryside and shoreline. To Puerto Jimenez by RENTAL CAR:
Because there are no rental cars in Puerto Jimenez, you have to rent one in San Jose and drive it down (6-8 hour drive). This is a way to see this beautiful country We recommend a 4-wheel drive. And we do NOT recommend driving at night! We can send you detailed driving directions.
