Near the westernmost point of the island of Oahu is the area known as Makaha.
This beautiful region has cascading mountains and rolling waves that make it perfect for getting away from the routine of ordinary life. Makaha Beach Park is the place to start a water sports vacation on this side of the island. This beach is best known for the superb surfing conditions that are constant throughout the year. During the summer, the waves are fairly exceptional, but the winter is the best time for surfing in this area. On average, the waves range from 15 feet at the lowest and sometimes 30 at the highest. Another popular sport is body-boarding in this area. During the summer months, a different range of activities are offered. Aside from being safer for swimming, the calmer waters allow for scuba-diving in the many underwater caves in the area. The waters also allow for kayaking along the coast during these months as well.
Makaha is a great place to begin any ocean vacation because of the variety of activities it offers throughout the year.
