Located near the eastern shore of the Big Island is the area known as Volcano.
Surrounded by many of the beautiful forest reserves on the Big Island, this area has access to one of the most dynamic shores of the the island. The many forest reserves around the area are just the beginning to any visitor's water sport adventure on this side of the island. A unique opportunity is offered at Ahalanui Park. While here, visitors can swim in the volcano-warmed pool situated right next to the ocean. The Waiopae Tide Pools are also in this region of the Big Island, and here visitors can snorkel and observe the colorful coral reefs and vibrant marine life that is scattered in the area. MacKenzie State Park is another park in the region which offers beautiful ocean views as well as heiau from ancient Hawaiian times. Another beach in the area is the Isaac Hale Beach Park, a popular sport for local fishermen. Mackenzie State Park and Isaac Hale Beach Park are not good for swimming but offer fantastic views of the beautiful waters of Hawaii.
