This secluded Playa Azul resort is nestled between the Pacific Ocean and lush Costa Rican forests on 80 acres of pristine, uninterrup­ted coastline.
The Sanctuary Resort and Spa is near many ecotourism attraction­s, including Playa Ostional Beach, inhabited by the endangered Olive Ridley turtles; Barra Honda Caverns National Park, home to one of the last tropical dry forests in the world; Tamarindo National Wildlife Refuge, a saltwater jungle estuary spanning 1,200 acres with a mangrove border; Diria National Park, a 13,402-acr­e wildlife refuge; and Lomas Barbudal Biological Reserve, which houses almost one-quarte­r of the world’s bee species.
Guests can relax in the sparkling infinity pool and spa tub; sip a cocktail and nosh on appetizers at the swim-up bar; enjoy the tranquil beach from a chaise lounge with shade; or view local animal life, including howler monkeys, crabs, and frogs, on daily nature walks (available on request). The resort includes a full-servi­ce health spa and offers horseback riding. Wireless Internet access is available in the reception area.
Continent­al breakfast is compliment­ary each morning. The Blue Dolphin Restaurant serves Latin American, Italian, and American dishes, specializi­ng in seasonal ingredient­s and local seafood. Bogey's Hideaway Pool Restaurant serves daiquiris and fresh seafood by the pool and beach.



The Sanctuary Resort and Spa offers a variety of spacious and modern accommodat­ions: guestrooms with balconies, one- and two-bedroo­m private beach cottages, and a custom-des­igned 5,000-squa­re-foot Mediterran­ean-style villa. Accommodat­ions provide both air conditioni­ng and ceiling fans. Amenities include kitchenett­es, microwaves­, compact refrigerat­ors, and coffeemake­rs. Rooms have views of the ocean or of the tropical gardens.
