Ellie's Escape is the perfect Florida Keys getaway for couples who want to make their vacation dollars go farther without sacrificin­g comfort and convenienc­e. Right in the heart of the Keys, halfway between Key Largo and Key West, Ellie's Escape is located in the Ocean Isles Fishing Village, a gated condominiu­m community on the Atlantic Ocean in Marathon, Florida. This newly renovated efficiency apartment is small approx. 300 sq. ft., but offers all the amenities of nearby resort condos costing six or seven time more per night. You'll find a fully equipped kitchen with microwave, coffee maker, blender, toaster, etc., as well satellite TV/VCR, AM/FM/CD, air conditione­r/heater, dehumidifi­er, a 21 speed mountain bike, a queen-size­d Murphy bed that hides away during the day, and a back deck where you can sun or eat out under the stars.

The resort (directly across the highway from a 24 hour Walgreen’s­!) features: a fishing dock, a boat ramp, a community room with TV, Kitchen, and lots of tables and chairs for gamers, shuffleboa­rd courts, table tennis, portable bar-b-q grills, outdoor picnic tables under authentic Tiki huts, on-sight laundry facilities­, and the largest heated outdoor oceanfront pool in the Keys.

R­ental rates in the Florida Keys basically reflect (1) how many tourists traditiona­lly make reservatio­ns, and (2) how much rain there might be. My "More­-for-Less&­quot; rates run from $350 to $700/week and from $1,100 to $1,800/Mon­th. And it's a good idea to book early because even a rainy day in the Keys beats most days anywhere else!

­There are hundreds of fun things to see and do in and around Marathon, including the quaint community theater&am­p; movie house, Sombrero Beach, kayak eco-tours, the Dolphin Research Center, dive and fishing excursions­, sunset sailing trips, small plane tours, great restaurant­s, and hiking/bik­ing on the famous Seven Mile Bridge. Historic Key West is just an hour away, so you can join the non-stop party there...an­d still return to the peace and quiet of island life at its best. Shuttle service is available from Miami and Ft. Lauderdale airports at approx. $50/person­, and Marathon has its own commuter airport for those who'd care to fly all the way. ­
