The Doctor's House
Property #275: Description
Life is simple and unhurried on Martha's Vineyard. Casual is the preferred dress, always. Leave your cares at home...and come relax in the sea breezes. Count on it - you won't want to leave.
Teddy Roosevelt was President in those bully days when the town doctor built this house on the bluff overlooking the harbor. The next two owners were also town doctors, and the last resided here and saw patients until the 1980's. By then, the Vineyard had become a vacation destination for travelers from around the world.
Today, The Doctor's House, tucked away in a quiet residential area of period homes, still exhibits the simple Arts and Crafts style of architecture and typical island shingle exterior. All guest rooms have private baths and air conditioning -- some with romantic fireplaces and canopy beds. Our magnigicent master suite is perfect for a honeymoon, anniversary, or other special occasion. A viewing area at one corner of the property opens to the vista of Vineyard Haven Harbor and Cape Cod.
Enjoy the ambience of this premier property on the Vineyard. Home and Garden Televison has featured us on their Secret Gardens show. Wander the colorful gardens and sloping lawns; curl up with a book under the shade of huge trees; explore the woods going down to Cat Hollow. With a favorite morning beverage in hand read the morning's newspaper, or share experiences with other guests. The new day's sunlight spotlights the terrace where you can sit and soak in the beauty of our breathtaking natural setting.
Starting yhour day, descend the staircases into the main living area and be greeted by the sounds of birds and soothing background music.
Breakfast, served in our spacious dining room is not to be missed! Feast on taste-tempting main dishes, luscious island-made jams and jellies, hot-from-the-oven muffins, just picked seasonal fruits and berries, and savor the fresh-ground custom-blended coffee.
We're just what the doctor ordered!
