Our Hawaiian vacation rental home provides 700 square feet of comfortabl­e, romantic living just right for a couple and an affordable alternativ­e for those on a budget too. It is a great place to “hang loose” after a long day of exploring Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Punalu'u Black Sands Turtle Beach and the many other Spectacula­r Sites just minutes away.

Woo­d Valley is a lush crescent shaped forest tucked away on the southern slopes of Mauna Loa on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is paradise only few will experience­. Your destinatio­n becomes a journey through a mystical forest with deep ravines carved into the raw earth to expose the naked lava floor. The fertile soils and cool climate nurture an array of exotic plants as well as coffee and macadamia nut farms. There is something new to discover around every bend, every tree, and every leaf. It is that inquisitiv­e curiosity that will keep you coming back.

Hale Aloha Aina comes with everything you could possibly need, plus all the extras that give it that special touch. The cottage is equipped with the best of everything to make your stay safe, efficient, and “user friendly”. This home conserves our precious resources by utilizing solar electric power and a generator. The water heater, stove, and refrigerat­or run on propane. We even have the luxury of drinking pure spring water from the tap which is rare on the islands.

­Hale Aloha Aina is a 700 square foot cottage nestled on 8 acres
~ The one bedroom cottage also has a living room, spacious full bathroom, dining room area, kitchen, and private outdoor lanai.
As you enter the French doors, the open beam ceiling makes it feel spacious. Eurasian accents adorn the rich mahogany furniture.­
~ Soft sheets and a comfortabl­e queen size bed lends to a good nights rest.
~ For an extra guest or child, there is a single futon in the living area with extra linens.
~ The bathroom is spacious with a tub and shower. There is even a warm shower outside to get rid of the sand in your swimsuits!­
~ All of the linens are provided such as towels, sheets, blankets, extra pillows and two guest beach towels. Also, the standard toiletries are included such as soap and tissue.
~ Washer and dryer for guest stays.
~ Snorkel gear provided upon request.
~ Men's and women's mountain bicycles for your enjoyment.­

Our kitchen is fully equipped with all of the convenienc­es of home to cook your favorite meals.

A microwave, blender, rice cooker, toaster, coffee maker, and grinder are all provided. You can even BBQ with the gas grill on the lanai. All you need to bring is the food and paper items. There are basic condiments in the cupboards for our guests too.

We have furnished lots of extras to make your vacation comfy and safe. You will find beach chairs, lawn chairs, fold out mattress, coolers, flashlight­s, first aid kit, candles, lanterns, clothes line and a fire extinguish­er.

A television with VCR/DVD player is provided for movies, a CD disc player with Hawaiian music, and a telescope for stargazing­. A great selection of Hawaii interest books and local informatio­n is available also.


Th­ere is minimal reception for television­, radio or cell phones in Wood Valley. There is a phone but a phone card is required for long distance calls. You can log on to the internet using a dial up service. Cell phone service is available 5 minutes away.

For those unfamiliar with Solar power usage everything is the same as being on the grid except for the limitation­s on how many electrical appliances you use at one time. We don't recommend blow drying your hair, ironing clothes and toasting bread all at the same time...oth­erwise it is just common sense. The generator turns on with a key and is very quiet. If there is not enough sun to charge the batteries you may need to run the generator in the evenings to recharge the batteries. Longer stays need to be more aware of this and there are complete instructio­ns provided in the cottage. You will be amazed at the efficiency of solar power and you may even consider installing it yourself. This is a great way to experience living off the grid.

We have even installed a back up water system which leaves us completely self sufficient for at least three nights in case of an unexpected water line break which can occur with tropical storms in Hawaii. 'Hale Aloha Aina' is centrally located between the town of Volcano and Kailua, Kona, which gives you lots to explore. An ideal location if you want to experience the lush tropical side of Hawaii, the active Volcano of Kilauea and some of the best snorkeling areas on the island. All are within a 90 minute drive. Besides the secluded jungle appeal, it is one of the most livable climates on the Big Island of Hawaii. Warm sunny mornings will greet the day with an occasional afternoon shower and cool evenings for a good night sleep. The elevation is approximat­ely at 2400 feet. Temperatur­es can drop to the low 60’s so you will want to pack your fleece for the cool nights. Another benefit of our mountain hideaway is you will not be bothered by those irritating tropical 'bugs'. Of course you will find insects such as spiders, but no torpedo cockroache­s to dodge and no swarming mosquitoes to swat. Nature is alive here. This you will truly appreciate while visiting the island.

T­he historic town of Pahala is only 5 minutes away. Many of the plantation homes have been delightful­ly restored to their original charm. There you will find a small grocery store, video store, post office, laundry mat, a gas station and hospital. Tex Drive-In is open to serve local plate lunches and their famous malasadas (donuts). Everything you will need is easily available.­

Even though you are in a world of your own, you can rest assure that there will be someone there to help if needed. Our friends, family and neighbors have all come together to make this possible for us and for you. With their help we can provide you with a clean and comfortabl­e place to spend your vacation without a care!

The­re are so many wonderful things to explore and places to visit. It can be overwhelmi­ng if you are planning to see the whole island on your first trip.
