Puerto Plata
Puerto Plata is found on the northern shore of the Dominican Republic. This area is a popular spot for many vacationers who choose to head towards the Caribbean for a seaside adventure.
While in Puerto Plata, visitors have an array of beaches to choose from. This side of the island is collective called the “Amber Coast” because of the amber deposits that color the sand. The Playa Dorado is the most developed of the beaches in the region. Here, visitors can wind-surf or water-ski, depending on the conditions of the wind and sea. For more consistent winds, and the opportunity to go kite-surfing, visitors should head to the neighboring Cabarete. Visitors can also snorkel around the region to view the colorful coral reefs. Another place great for snorkeling and swimming is Playa Chiquita. This beach is a little more secluded, but it definitely is quieter than the more popular Playa Dorado. Another popular spot to go snorkeling is Laguna Gri-Gri.
Puerto Plata is an exciting place to visit as watersports enthusiasts will always have something to do under the warm Caribbean sun.
