On the northwestern corner of the Dominican Republic is the province of Monte Cristi. Once an important trading port, the province is now a popular vacation destination for those heading to the Caribbean.

Some parts of the town have been named UNESO World Heritage sites, so be sure to take a walk around and see some of these places. Monte Cristi Beach is one of the popular beaches in the area, however, it occasionally experiences rough Atlantic waves, so visitors are advised to take caution. When the waters are calm, visitors can swim, snorkel and dive around the reefs. The Parque Nacional Monte Cristi neighbors the bay and is home to over 100 species of birds. The neighboring islands are called Los Sietes Hermanos and it is a favored spot for sea turtles to nest. Two nearby beaches that are extremely popular are El Morro and Cayo Cabrita. At El Morro, visitors can surf and body-board because of the constant waves.

Monte Cristi may be in a quieter part of the Dominican Republic, but its water still provide all the excitement of a Caribbean vacation.
