BeachNuts Beach Guide for:
West Bay Beach Roatan
If you are looking for a pristine beach, turquoise waters, jungle-covered hills, heartwarming people, world class diving and endless activities, then West Bay Beach is the place for you. West Bay Beach is Roatan's most beautiful beach and arguably one of the prettiest in the western Caribbean. Protected by a coral reef, this mile-long, white, sandy beach is framed by clear waters and a tropical forest backdrop.
The sand is powdery white and the water warm and crystal clear. The setting is spectacular, and while the Caribbean is teeming with hordes of visitors and all-inclusive, high-rise resorts are winning the battle with palm trees and rain forests, West Bay Beach is one of the Caribbean's last unspoiled beach paradises.
West Bay Beach has very little surf because of a protective coral reef, so you can relax and enjoy your swimming, snorkeling or floating. The snorkeling is incredible and access easy. From West Bay Beach, swim out to the coral reef and enjoy the thrill of Roatan's extensive reef system. West Bay Beach is also a great spot for families. Children can enjoy the calm, warm water and the uncrowded beach without the concerns connected with large, heavily populated areas.
If you are looking for a place to relax, dive, snorkel, horse back ride, and eat with some of the friendliest folks in the world, consider the West Bay Beach area of Roatan. While Roatan is a bit more rustic than some other Caribbean islands, those who come here usually aren't looking for upscale resorts but a place like the Caribbean used to be.
Be aware of a few things though. Make certain to apply plenty of sunscreen, deet, and coconut oil to your body, and reapply these things every couple of hours. If you don't you will burn and get eaten by the sand fleas. The sand fleas don't discriminate and are very hungry in Roatan. Deet and the local coconut oil will deter the sand fleas and you won't get bitten.
